The FIA has confirmed it will hold meetings in April to assess Formula 1's new 2026 regulations following Oliver Bearman's high-speed crash at the Japanese Grand Prix. Bearman spun at over 190mph when trying to avoid Alpine's Franco Colapinto, who was slowing down to harvest energy under the new rules, resulting in a 50G impact.

Bearman suffered a right knee contusion but escaped serious injury. The British driver blamed the incident on the new regulations that create significant speed differentials, warning that drivers need more space when carrying excess speed. The FIA stated that ongoing discussions have been taking place since the regulations' introduction and that any potential changes would require careful simulation and analysis.

Carlos Sainz, director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, expressed concern about what could have happened on street circuits like Baku or Singapore. McLaren's Andrea Stella said the crash was 'not a surprise' and warned about high closing speeds during pre-season testing. The FIA emphasized that safety remains a core element of its mission as it works with teams and manufacturers to determine whether refinements to the energy management systems are needed.
