Formula 1's governing body the FIA condemned the online harassment directed at its race stewards following their decision to apply the rulebook and penalise Alpine driver Franco Colapinto at Zandvoort. Colapinto and Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad were both handed drive-through penalties for overtaking under a double-waved yellow flag on lap one of the Dutch Grand Prix. The FIA stated the penalties were clear-cut cases under the rulebook, with Colapinto's Argentinian sponsor Mercado Libre questioning the stewards' integrity.

The FIA, which launched the United Against Online Abuse Coalition in 2023, released a statement condemning all forms of abuse and harassment, emphasizing that disagreement with decisions must never justify threats or personal attacks. The organization is exploring legal options in response to the abusive messages targeting stewards.

Alpine stated they fully trust the FIA's policing of rules and consistent penalty application, though they acknowledged the penalties were harsh. The controversy highlighted concerns about perceived bias against non-British drivers and sparked significant online backlash against the governing body.
