England Women's national selector Lydia Greenway outlined her plan to close the gap on world leaders Australia by prioritising 'world-class' all-rounders. As part of that strategy, all-rounders Dani Gibson and Freya Kemp have been starters throughout the summer, contributing to T20 series wins over New Zealand and India and a run to the T20 World Cup final on home soil before losing to Australia. England also swept Ireland 3-0 in the ODI series, with Sophia Dunkley scoring a second international century in the 114-run final ODI win in Worcester.

Greenway stated the team must develop multiple bowling options like Australia's top seven and emphasised that all-rounders dominate the women's game. For the Ireland series, England trialled Alice Capsey as wicketkeeper instead of regular Amy Jones to add versatility to the top order. Greenway noted Capsey, a proven middle-order batter, could ideally fill this role in T20s, where her keeping skills would free up other spots and create healthy competition with Jones, who remains the first-choice keeper.

The side also highlighted the form of Maia Boucher and Tilly Corteen-Coleman as potential future top-order options.
