Curacao secured their place at World Cup 2026 with a goalless draw against Jamaica in Kingston on November 18, 2025. The Caribbean island nation, with a population of less than 160,000, became the smallest country ever to reach football's biggest stage. Jamaica needed victory to qualify for the first time since France 1998, but fell short against a resilient Curacao side.

Dutch veteran Dick Advocaat guided Curacao through CONCACAF qualifying unbeaten, winning their group before advancing through the third round. The 78-year-old manager resigned in February 2026 citing family health issues, then returned in May when circumstances improved. His squad includes several players with English football experience, including the Bacuna brothers - Leandro (Aston Villa, Watford) and Juninho (Huddersfield, Rangers).

Despite the historic achievement, Curacao enters the tournament ranked 83rd in the world and has lost all three friendlies since qualifying. They suffered defeats to China, Australia, and Scotland in preparation matches. Sixteen squad members previously played for Netherlands youth teams, while goalkeeper Eloy Room holds a joint-record 71 caps.

Their group stage fixtures will determine whether this fairytale qualification translates into meaningful results. With Advocaat becoming the oldest manager in World Cup history, Curacao faces an uphill challenge against football's traditional powerhouses.
