City Faces Commission Verdict on Financial Breaches

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said a “wonderful sit‑down” will follow the outcome of a long‑running financial fair play inquiry. The club faces a ruling from an independent commission after a 12‑week closed‑door hearing that wrapped in December 2024. Until now, City has denied the charges and the league remains silent for now.

City was charged in 2023 with breaching financial fair play between 2009 and 2018 and failing to cooperate with Premier League probes. The club won three league titles during that span, yet insists every allegation is false. The pending decision could reshape its financial standing and affect future transfer plans for the next season.

Al Mubarak, who has led City since 2008, highlighted the club’s trophy haul: eight Premier League crowns, four FA Cups, seven League Cups, one Champions League and more. He confirmed Sheikh Mansour will not sell the group, stressing that ownership aims to grow the club’s global brand rather than exit and maintain its competitive edge.

With the commission’s verdict pending, City’s season plans remain on hold. A negative ruling could trigger points deductions or transfer embargoes, while a clean bill would clear the way for new signings. The outcome will decide whether the club can sustain its current trajectory in the Premier League for the upcoming campaign and beyond today.
