Former Premier League stars Jimmy Bullard and Peter Odemwingie fell short at The Open regional qualifying. Over 2,000 golfers contested 16 venues for one spot in a single event into final qualifying on June 30. Bullard missed the top‑eight at Rochester & Cobham Park, finishing one‑over‑72. Odemwingie posted a 12‑over‑84 at Enville.

Both men had prior PGA Euro Tour experience, but neither secured a top‑15 finish. The field included YouTubers Peter Finch and Rick Shiels, who recorded two‑over‑72 and four‑over‑76 respectively, and content creator George Bryan, who earned a place with a three‑under‑68 at Hesketh.

Final qualifying will unfold across Burnham & Berrow, Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports and West Lancashire, spanning two rounds. The Open itself starts July 16 at Royal Birkdale, where defending champion Scottie Scheffler returns after winning Royal Portrush last year. Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood also line up as strong contenders, each targeting a top‑ten finish.

With 16 regional venues, the competition remains fierce. Those who fail to advance must reassess their game before the next major. The Open’s schedule, set from July 16‑19, will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, keeping fans tuned to every swing.
