Former Masters champions Sergio Garcia and Danny Willett both fell short in Final Qualifying for The Open Championship, missing out on the 20 available spots across four UK venues. Garcia blamed lunchtime lasagne for following an opening 68 with a three-over 75, finishing seven strokes outside qualification at West Lancashire. Meanwhile, YouTube golf personality Wesley Bryan missed a seven-foot par putt on his final hole that would have earned him a playoff spot.

Willett posted rounds of 71 and 69 but still came up three strokes shy of advancing. Five-time DP World Tour winner Matt Wallace withdrew during the second round, ending his qualification hopes. The disappointment for established names opened doors for several lesser-known players to secure their place at Royal Birkdale from July 16-19.

At West Lancashire, Sam Bairstow topped the leaderboard at 10 under, with Kazuma Kobori and Tiger Christensen joining him. James Nicholas led qualifiers at Burnham & Berrow, while Caleb Surratt of LIV Golf also advanced. Matthew Southgate progressed through qualifying for a sixth time at Royal Cinque Ports.

The 154th Open marks Scottie Scheffler's title defense as Rory McIlroy seeks his first Claret Jug. Sky Sports offers exclusive coverage starting 6:30am on July 16, with over 75 hours of live action scheduled across tournament week.
