Arsenal transfer target Bruno Guimaraes has arrived in Spain to join Newcastle United's pre-season training camp in La Manga. The Newcastle captain left Brazil on Sunday and is set to meet the squad on Monday by agreement with the club.

Guimaraes told Newcastle bosses last month he wanted to move to Arsenal. New boss Matthias Jaissle, set to replace Eddie Howe, is at La Manga with his squad and wants to meet the captain. Newcastle remain braced for a formal approach from the Gunners, who have been exploring deal conditions through intermediaries. There has been no club-to-club contact yet, which has left Newcastle puzzled.

The midfielder has two years left on his contract, including a club-held option for an additional year. Last week, Guimaraes called Eddie Howe the 'king of this club' following the head coach's exit, posting on Instagram: "King of this club!! Thanks for everything you've done for us."
