Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been approached to join a consortium that is in talks to buy a stake in Liverpool FC. The syndicate, led by former Queens Park Rangers co‑owner Amit Bhatia – son‑in‑law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal – is exploring a minority investment that could value the club at more than $6 bn (£4.5 bn). A source said it is not certain Bezos will proceed.

Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post, is estimated by Forbes to have a fortune of almost $257 bn, making him the world’s fourth‑richest man. He has previously considered bids for the Seattle Seahawks, the Super Bowl winners, and the Washington Commanders, but did not take either deal through.

The move would add to the growing number of Premier League clubs owned by US investors, many of whom have already injected capital into teams such as Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Manchester United. Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group (controlled by John Henry), bought the club for £300 m in 2010 and have sold a minority stake to Dynasty Equity in 2023.

Bhatia, a former Morgan Stanley banker, has worked in construction, real‑estate and private equity and was a QPR director, where a stand at Loftus Road now bears his name.
