Former Olympic sprinter Adam Gemili has retired from athletics and returned to Chelsea as a part-time speed coach for the club's academy. The Londoner, who left Chelsea's academy at 15, will now share his expertise with young players, drawing from his journey from local football to Olympic competition.

Gemili's rapid rise in athletics saw him go from playing for Dagenham and Redbridge to becoming World Junior 100m champion and competing at the 2012 London Olympics within months. The 31-year-old won a 4x100m gold medal at the 2017 World Championships and four European titles during his career. He emphasizes that while football and athletics differ, understanding what 'fast' feels like is crucial.

Beyond his coaching role, Gemili is establishing his own academy to help sprinters, footballers, and young athletes optimize their speed. He hopes to inspire academy players who may not make it to professional football to explore other sporting paths. The former athlete also expressed support for London hosting future major athletics events, noting how the 2012 and 2017 championships inspired both athletes and the community.
