Wrexham Boss to Challenge Referees Over Controversial Penalty

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson plans to complain to Championship referees' chief Kevin Friend after claiming his playoff-chasing team was wronged in their 2-2 draw against West Brom. Parkinson was furious about referee Bobby Madley's decision to award Albion a penalty in the first half when Jayson Molumby went down after contact from Issa Kaboré at a corner.

Parkinson argued the call was excessive, saying such incidents happen regularly without penalty awards. The spot-kick, converted by Josh Maja, gave West Brom a 2-0 lead after George Dobson's own goal. Wrexham fought back with second-half goals from Josh Windass and Lewis O'Brien to secure a point, moving them into sixth place above Southampton, who have a game in hand.

The Wrexham boss also criticized officials for failing to protect striker Sam Smith, citing two recent incidents where he believes Smith should have earned red cards for opponents. Interim West Brom manager James Morrison defended the penalty decision, noting referees had warned about clamping down on holding at corners. The draw keeps Albion four points above the relegation zone as their rivals all picked up points.
