The Scottish FA has officially withdrawn its support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino, citing “lack of transparency” over the plan to sell World Cup company stakes. England, Republic of Ireland and Wales FAs have already withdrawn backing, and the SFA now joins them, reflecting its commitment to transparency and the fans.

CEO Ian Maxwell said the SFA will not vote for Gianni Infantino, aligning with UEFA’s stance and warning of a “fall‑down in governance, lack of transparency and engagement” with member associations. He emphasized that focusing on the game rather than off‑field drama is essential for football’s future. He noted that the UEFA position has been consistent throughout the controversy.

President Mike Mulraney, chair of FIFA’s finance committee, said the game belongs to everyone, not individuals, and urged changes to governance and transparency. He also highlighted the need for member associations to be involved in decision‑making.

Three confederation presidents accuse Gianni Infantino of “deception” over his private investor plan, while advocacy group Fair Square has questioned his eligibility, noting a possible fourth term in 2027 that would exceed the 12 years limit set by the statutes. The situation remains unresolved as FIFA awaits comment on the Fair Square letter.
