Ruben Amorim takes charge of AC Milan after United exit

Portuguese tactician Ruben Amorim has accepted the role of head coach at AC Milan after Manchester United dismissed him in January. The 41‑year‑old arrives as the Rossoneri rebuild following a fifth‑place Serie A finish that left them out of next season’s Champions League. Milan replaced Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the 2025‑26 campaign, seeking fresh direction and hopes to translate his recent domestic cup success into league progress.

Amorim said coaching Milan has long been a personal ambition, citing the club’s history, prestige and global fanbase. He pledged to embrace the challenge with pride, aware of the expectations that come with the red‑black stripes. The appointment gives Milan a chance to rebound from missing European football and re‑establish themselves among Italy’s elite, and will look to integrate several summer signings.

United disclosed a £15.9 million provision for compensation owed to Amorim and his staff, a figure that could shrink now that he has secured a new contract. Milan will meet United in a preseason friendly in Poland on August 15, offering Amorim an early test of his squad. He will also oversee the integration of youth prospects. His task is clear: restore Milan to Champions League contention.
