Manchester United have defended a 5% increase in ticket prices for the 2026/27 season at Old Trafford, saying the revenue will help fund their ambition to return to the top of English and European football. The club, currently third in the Premier League under interim coach Michael Carrick, wants to invest in the team and facilities as they approach their 150th anniversary in 2028.

United say the increase equates to just over £2 per match for adult season tickets and £1 for under-16s. The club plans to relocate several hundred fans to create more hospitality seats in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. They argue the price rise is necessary to maintain financial sustainability amid inflation and rising costs.

The Football Supporters' Association has appealed for clubs to halt ticket price increases for two seasons, but United say they need the revenue to compete at the highest level. The Manchester United Supporters' Trust expressed frustration with the decision, noting that 600 more loyal fans are being moved for hospitality seating. The club has agreed to reintroduce publication of ticket allocation data and will maintain existing season ticket holder benefits.
