Højlund's Emotional Exit from Man United After Napoli Move Locked In

Rasmus Højlund called his departure from Manchester United "emotional" after Napoli's 3-0 win over Pisa sealed Champions League qualification and triggered his €44 million permanent transfer. The Danish striker, loaned to Serie A last summer, posted on Instagram that scoring in Sunday's match felt symbolic—he's now officially a Napoli player after United's obligation kicked in.

His move marks the end of a chapter that began in 2023, when he joined Old Trafford and scored 14 Premier League goals across two seasons. At Napoli this season, he's netted 11 times, rekindling the confidence he lost in England. Sporting director Giovanni Manna had already called the permanent deal a "formality" once Champions League football was secured.

"I'm saying goodbye to Manchester United," Højlund wrote. "That feels weird, because for the past year I already feel like a Napoli player." He thanked United's fans and staff for making his childhood dream of wearing a red jersey at Old Trafford come true, before declaring it's "time for new dreams." Napoli now have their man locked in on a long-term deal.
