Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso expressed great relief when the club’s most expensive signing, Mykhailo Mudryk, was cleared to play after a doping ban. The Ukrainian winger, who last appeared in November 2024, had been suspended following an adverse finding by the FA and a subsequent charge in June 2025.

After a successful appeal against the four‑year ban at the Court Bonus for Sport (CAS), Mudryk returned overnight. Alonso praised the player’s resilience, noting the emotional toll of years away from competitive football and the club’s commitment to reintegrate him into the squad.

Mudryk will join the team for the next leg of their pre‑season friendly tour in Hong Kong, following a 2‑1 loss to Tottenham in Sydney. Alonso described the winger as a “special player” from his time at Shakhtar Donetsk, but warned that full match fitness will take time.

With only a short runway before the Premier League season, Chelsea must balance the need to speed up Mudryk’s recovery with squad harmony. Alonso remains optimistic that the player’s return will spark momentum, while the club works to bring him mentally and physically up to speed.
