Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have sold their stakes in Chelsea, giving Clearlake Capital full control of the English Premier League club. Clearlake, led by Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, previously held a 61.5% stake, while Boehly and Walter each owned 12.83%. Swiss philanthropist Hansjörg Wyss, also a 12.83% stakeholder, will remain a partner. The consortium acquired Chelsea for £2.5 billion ($3.3 billion) in 2022, with £1.75 billion ($2.3 billion) committed to investment following Roman Abramovich's sanctioning. The Financial Times reported Boehly and Walter will receive £950 million ($1.3 billion) for their combined stake, valuing the club at £5 billion ($6.7 billion) including debt. Boehly will relinquish his role as chairman.

"It has been an honour to serve as Chairman of Chelsea Football Club," Boehly said. "I would like to thank the many who helped secure a bright future for the Club." He expressed confidence in Clearlake's leadership.

ESPN reported tensions between Clearlake and other investors, including Boehly, with each seeking to buy the other out in 2024. Walter recently sold the Los Angeles Lakers to Joshua Kushner and Bob Iger at a $12.5 billion valuation and remains owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chelsea, managed by Xabi Alonso and currently sixth in the Premier League, confirmed no changes to operations or strategy.
