San Francisco 49ers wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling had ankle surgery and is expected to miss about 10 weeks, coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday. Stribling will go on injured reserve, with hope he returns this season. "We feel good he'll get back this season," Shanahan said. "It'll take some time."

Tight end Jake Tonges, needing MCL surgery on his right knee, was placed on IR Wednesday and is out for the season. The Niners promoted wideout Kha Darel Hodge and tight end Brayden Willis from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Stribling sprained the deltoid ligament in his left ankle, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He sought multiple opinions but chose surgery. He was initially injured late in the first quarter on a pass to tight end Luke Farrell, falling awkwardly after a hit by a Rams defender. He jogged on the sideline, returned in the second quarter, then went down without contact on a deep route.

With Stribling out, the Niners lack two of their projected top three receivers. Ricky Pearsall is on IR and won't return this year. The team will lean on Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel and Demarcus Robinson, with Jacob Cowing, Jordan Watkins and Hodge adding depth. Christian Kirk is eligible to come off IR after Week 4. "We have enough," Shanahan said.
