Ange Postecoglou Regrets Nottingham Forest Job After Spurs Exit

Ange Postecoglou has admitted he made a mistake taking the Nottingham Forest head coach position, calling it 'too soon' after leaving Tottenham Hotspur. The Australian manager was sacked by Forest after a 39-day winless run, just months after winning the Europa League with Spurs. Speaking on The Overlap podcast, Postecoglou took full responsibility for the decision, acknowledging he should never have accepted the role so soon after his departure from North London.

Postecoglou explained that he felt lost during the off-season after 20 years of continuous work, which clouded his judgment about the Forest opportunity. He believed he could quickly turn around the squad but realized too late that the club wasn't genuinely seeking the changes he wanted to implement. The managerial situation at Forest has been chaotic, with Vitor Pereira becoming the club's fourth permanent manager of the season, setting a Premier League record.

The 59-year-old coach said he should have had more extensive discussions before accepting the position and that his desire to work again blinded him to the reality that the job wasn't sustainable long-term. Postecoglou emphasized that every manager needs to go through difficult periods to build trust with players and fans, something he experienced at Spurs but couldn't replicate at Forest. He now views the entire experience as a learning opportunity and a reminder to be more cautious about future opportunities.
