Forest appoint Glasner as fifth manager in year

Nottingham Forest have named Oliver Glasner as their fifth head coach in less than 12 months, replacing Vitor Pereira who was dismissed Tuesday — two minutes before a contract exit clause expired. The 51-year-old Austrian arrives with a FA Cup, Europa Conference League and Community Shield from his single season at Crystal Palace, plus a Europa League triumph with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021-22. Owner Evangelos Marinakis called Glasner "a winner" who shares the club's "relentless desire to succeed."

The managerial carousel has spun violently since September: Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Pereira have all cycled through the City Ground. Pereira lasted 133 days and guided Forest to 16th — five points above the drop — and a Europa League semi-final loss to Aston Villa. Nuno's 21-month reign ended after three games following a falling-out with sporting director Edu and Marinakis.

Glasner left Palace in January despite a contract offer, citing a desire for a new challenge and later claiming he and his squad were "abandoned completely" by the hierarchy. That friction mirrors the instability he now inherits. With no European football next season, Glasner has fewer distractions but immediate pressure to deliver the stability Marinakis demands.

Forest's squad has talent but lacks coherence after a year of tactical whiplash. Glasner's structured, high-intensity system worked at Palace with a settled group; here he must impose it on a roster shaped by four different managers. If Marinakis's patience matches his ambition, Glasner could end the chaos. If not, he becomes the sixth name on a very short list.
