Kadri Finger Injury Threatens Avalanche Playoff Momentum

Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri will miss a handful of games after a finger injury, coach Jared Bednar said Thursday. Kadri, 35, joined Colorado in a March 6 trade that sent him to the Flames. He has tallied four goals and five assists in 16 outings, a solid contribution as the club edges toward the playoffs.

Colorado already clinched the Central Division and the top seed in the Western Conference, eyes now on the Presidents' Trophy. A win over the Calgary Flames Thursday night would seal the award, awarded to the team with the best NHL record. Kadri’s absence could influence the line‑up as the Avalanche aim to lock in momentum before the postseason.

Kadri suffered the injury during a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. The 35‑year‑old helped Colorado to a Stanley Cup title in 2022, and his play has been pivotal in the current campaign. Bednar hopes to reintegrate him as soon as possible, perhaps next week, to keep the offensive rhythm intact.

Alongside Kadri, defenseman Cale Makar is also sidelined with an upper‑body injury, marking his fifth consecutive missed game. Makar wore a red, non‑contact sweater during Thursday’s practice, signaling the team's intent to manage his return carefully. With both key players out, the Avalanche must rely on depth as they close the regular season.
