Chicoutimi rallies past Kelowna in OT thriller at Memorial Cup

Chicoutimi Sagueneens defeated the host Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in overtime at the Memorial Cup on Sunday, with Liam Lefebvre scoring the winner at 5:28. The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League champions bounced back after dropping 5-3 to Everett Silvertips the night before. Lefebvre opened the scoring in the first period on a breakaway before sealing it in OT.

After Anton Linde put Chicoutimi up 2-1, Mazden Leslie tied it with 4:10 left. Tij Iginla, the 19-year-old son of Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla, had scored earlier in the second to knot it 1-1. Lucas Beckman turned aside 27 shots for the win, while Josh Banini made 26 saves for Kelowna. The Rockets dropped their opener 5-0 to Kitchener Rangers on Friday.

Chicoutimi sits 1-1 in the round-robin while Everett and Kitchener remain unbeaten at 2-0. Monday brings a Silvertips-Rangers clash, with Kitchener hosting Chicoutimi on Tuesday. Kelowna faces Everett on Wednesday in a must-win game after two straight losses to start the tournament.
