Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay says he won't put an "invisible deadline" on Aaron Donald to come out of retirement, though he hopes the former star defensive tackle makes a decision "sooner than later."

McVay discussed Donald's status following a preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, stating he wants to give Donald the space to have "clarity." Donald, who spent his entire 10-year career with the Rams before retiring in March 2024, has been mulling a comeback and worked out with the team on Aug. 5.

While NFL teams must trim rosters to 53 players by Aug. 30, McVay insisted he will not apply unnecessary pressure. The 35-year-old, a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, began entertaining a return in June after the Rams traded for Myles Garrett. McVay noted that Donald "looked outstanding" during his workout and is currently testing his ability to meet personal benchmarks. Regardless of the outcome, McVay stated he feels great about the current state of the Rams' roster.
