Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has been fully cleared for training camp, according to a source who spoke with ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. LaPorta, 25, underwent a microdiscectomy earlier this year to address a herniated disk. He concluded the previous season with 40 receptions for 489 yards and three touchdowns across nine games.

Drafted by the Lions in the second round of the 2023 draft, LaPorta has recorded 186 catches for 2,104 yards and 20 touchdowns in his career. In his rookie season, he was selected to the Pro Bowl and earned second-team All-Pro honors, setting personal bests with 86 receptions, 889 yards, and 10 touchdown receptions. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent following the upcoming season. Veteran players for the Lions are expected to report for training camp next week.
