Saints Acquire White from 49ers for RB Depth

The New Orleans Saints acquired running back White from the San Francisco 49ers via trade to address injuries at the position. Longtime starter Alvin Kamara is out with an MCL injury, while Kendre Miller (ankle) and Taysom Hill (hamstring) are also sidelined. White, 26, a fourth-round pick by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, joins a backfield that recently welcomed back Jamaal Williams and Derrick Dillon.

The move fills a short-term need as the Saints are thin in the backfield. In the trade, the Saints sent veteran linebacker Kwon Alexander to the 49ers. Alexander, 31, signed with San Francisco in early August.

He was considered a long shot to make the roster. Selected in the second round by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, Alexander started 83 games over six seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2017. He also had stints with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jones has a connection with 49ers defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen after playing for him in college. The 49ers already had depth at linebacker, but backup Demario Davis has missed the past couple of days because of an injury. ESPN's Katherine Terrell contributed to this report.
