Buccaneers inside linebacker Lavonte David, a 12-time captain and key member of their 2020 Super Bowl LV-winning team, is retiring after 14 seasons. The 36-year-old announced his decision Tuesday, ending a career marked by dominance. David ranks first in franchise history with 1,171 solo tackles and holds the team record for forced fumbles (33) and fumble recoveries (20).

He is one of just seven players since 1994 to reach 1,700 career tackles. David's final game saw him tie Derrick Brooks' franchise tackle record, a poignant moment honoring his mentor. His leadership was evident when he stood beside coach Todd Bowles after Mike Evans' injury, showing solidarity with teammates.

David, a second-round pick from Nebraska, finally reached the postseason in 2020, leading the Bucs to four NFC South titles. With Evans also departing in free agency, David's retirement leaves the team without its longest-tenured players.
