Vikings QB banged up in preseason loss to Ravens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy played 18 snaps in the team's 13-3 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens before being removed after getting "banged up" during a rough first quarter.

Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said he had hoped to send McCarthy out for at least one more possession, but the quarterback was "a little hobbled" after absorbing three hits and one sack. O'Connell did not reveal a specific injury.

McCarthy completed 5 of 10 passes for 81 yards, including a 50-yard pass to receiver that set up a first down at the Ravens' 10-yard line. However, he overthrew two receivers in the end zone on second and fourth downs as the Vikings failed to score.

The injury revelation is notable given McCarthy's history since being selected with the No. 10 pick of the 2024 draft. He missed his entire rookie season with a torn meniscus, then missed seven games last season due to an ankle sprain and concussion. McCarthy said he doesn't imagine being sidelined in practice this week ahead of Friday's preseason game against the Broncos.
