Kamara & Etienne: Saints’ New Running Back Duo

Alvin Kamara heads into the 2026 NFL season with his eyes wide open. Drafted in the third round of the 2017 draft, Kamara has been a fixture in New Orleans despite three coaching changes between 2021 and 2025. His role seemed immoveable until a poor statistical season raised questions about his future.

The Saints signed 27‑year‑old jednog Travis Etienne Jr. to a four‑year deal worth almost $12 million a year. Kamara, who turns 31 on Saturday, faces the end of his time in New Orleans. The addition of Etienne mirrors the historic “Boom and Zoom” era when Kamara and Mark Ingram II each eclipsed 1,500 yards.

Saints coach Kellen Moore says the pair’s explosive, elusive ability to play in all three phases will benefit the team. Etienne’s rushing prowess and receiving skill set complement Kamara’s versatility, and Moore plans to find a role for both.

Etienne has long admired Kamara, citing his receiver‑outside‑of‑the‑backfield style. Kamara welcomes the new partnership, saying it will give both players options and keep defenses on their toes.
