New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith faces renewed police scrutiny after investigators reopened a battery case involving an alleged domestic dispute at his Florida home. The Davie Police Department initially closed the matter Sunday but announced Tuesday that detectives are actively investigating the incident where a woman identified as Smith's ex-girlfriend claimed she was assaulted.

Police responded to Smith's residence Sunday afternoon following a 911 call in which the woman tearfully told dispatchers, "My ex-boyfriend just beat me up." She later posted video footage on Instagram showing an argument, stating Smith "ran outside and attacked me." Authorities confirmed no arrests were made during the initial response.

The woman's social media post included allegations about Smith's parenting, claiming he "beat my ass" due to frustration caring for his special needs child. However, the mother of Smith's 6-year-old son publicly defended him on Instagram Stories, stating he "is and always has been more than capable" of caring for their child and telling critics to "kill that narrative."

Smith, 35, has not publicly addressed the accusations. The Jets have declined comment. This incident comes months after Smith was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders and named New York's starting quarterback for the 2026 season, potentially complicating the team's plans at the position.
