The New York Jets have acquired five-time Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins in a trade, sources confirmed to ESPN. The Jets will send a 2026 seventh-round pick to Miami in exchange for the 29-year-old defensive back. Fitzpatrick will sign a three-year, $40 million contract with New York.

This marks the Jets' second major offseason move, following their recent acquisition of nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat. The trade addresses a critical need in the Jets' secondary, which became the first team in NFL history to finish a season without an interception. Fitzpatrick brings 21 career interceptions and extensive experience to a defense undergoing significant changes.

Fitzpatrick's journey includes being a 2018 first-round pick for Miami before being traded to Pittsburgh, where he made five Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams. The Dolphins reacquired him in 2025, but he now joins a Jets team with new defensive coordinator Brian Duker and safeties coach Ryan Slowik, both former Miami staffers. The move signals the Jets' aggressive approach to rebuilding their defense.
