Giants hopeful wideout Malik Nabers returns for season opener

Coach John Harbaugh said the Giants are "very hopeful" that Malik Nabers will rejoin the roster soon, noting the third‑year receiver has made solid progress after his ACL and meniscus repair. Nabers missed the mandatory minicamp but plans to attend most of the final week in West Virginia. The optimism follows GM Joe Schoen’s recent claim he should be fine for Week 1.

Harbaugh described the rehab as a "slog" but estimated Nabers is roughly 70‑80% through the process. The wideout participated in a charity softball game, showing limited mobility but enough activity to convince staff he’s improving. If he returns in late October or early September, he will still need several weeks of practice before game action, a timeline the coaching staff accepts.

New York bolstered its receiving corps with veteran signings—Odell Beckham Jr., Juju Smith‑Schuster and Braxton Berrios—while Nabers’ rookie record of 109 passes for 1,204 yards remains a benchmark. With Darius Slayton and Gunner Olszewski also sidelined, the Giants rely heavily on Nabers’ health to sustain early‑season production against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
