The Washington Commanders unveiled renderings for a new transparent domed stadium set for a 2030 opening. The 70,000-seat venue, designed by HKS, will feature steel beams reminiscent of the old RFK Stadium and offer views of the U.S. Capitol and Washington Monument. This marks a major step in the team's planned return to the District.

The nearly $4 billion project aims to recapture the home-field advantage the franchise enjoyed at RFK, where they won three Super Bowls. Since moving to Maryland in 1997, the Commanders have struggled to replicate that success. The new stadium is the centerpiece of a larger mixed-use development on an 180-acre site, with 30% dedicated to public recreational space.

Team president Mark Clouse called the design worthy of its location along DC's Monumental Axis. The renderings are the first public glimpse of a project backed by owner Josh Harris and D.C. officials, who hope to bid on future events like the 2031 Women's World Cup and a Super Bowl. The stadium's interior is engineered to maximize crowd noise.
