Wembanyama Escapes Flagrant Penalty for Brunson Shove in Finals Game 3

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama avoided a flagrant foul for his first-quarter shove on Knicks guard Jalen Brunson in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The league confirmed Tuesday that no flagrant penalty would be assessed, leaving Wembanyama at two flagrant points for the postseason. A suspension triggers automatically at four points.

The physical play unfolded with 4:44 left in the opening quarter when Brunson attempted to set a screen near the free throw line. Wembanyama turned and shoved the guard to the floor, drawing immediate protests from New York players and coaches. While officials missed the call during the game, NBA senior vice president Monty McCutchen later acknowledged a foul should have been whistled.

Wembanyama's two flagrant points stem from a separate incident in Game 4 of the second round against Minnesota. He elbowed Timberwolves forward Naz Reid in the jaw, earning a flagrant foul 2 and ejection. The league chose not to impose additional discipline beyond the initial foul call.

This decision keeps Wembanyama available for Game 4 and maintains San Antonio's frontcourt presence as they face a 2-1 series deficit. New York's complaint about the missed call fell on deaf ears, leaving the Knicks searching for answers after their loss.
