Golden State’s bench is set for a reshuffle after both top assistants opted out at season’s end. Terry Stotts, Kerr’s lead offensive mind for two years, let the franchise know he won’t return, while former Vanderbilt coach Jerry Stackhouse, the defensive coordinator, also declined a new deal. Their contracts expired following a 37‑win campaign this offseason.

Stotts, whose résumé includes a nine‑season stint as Portland’s head coach, said his two years with Steve Kerr were “fulfilling” and he remains open to head‑coaching roles. Stackhouse, who guided Vanderbilt for five seasons, is reportedly eyeing another NBA lead job; teammates even floated his name for the North Carolina vacancy. Kerr signed a two‑year extension, keeping him as the league’s highest‑paid coach.

With the departures confirmed, Kerr’s remaining staff pivots around long‑time aide Kris Weems, while the front office eyes former Pelicans coach Willie Green as a possible replacement. Green, a 2016 Warriors assistant, maintains a close link to Kerr’s system. As the NBA’s transaction window opens, Golden State plans to reshape the roster around Stephen Curry and cement a new coaching hierarchy.
