Trent Jr. Returns to Bucks on $64M Contract

Gary Trent Jr. has agreed to a four-year, $64 million contract to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks, securing a massive payday after two seasons on minimum and mid-level deals. The first year of the agreement will pay $15.2 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. Trent averaged 9.7 points on 41% shooting, including 39% from three-point range, during his Milwaukee tenure.

Trent originally signed for the league minimum in summer 2024, then inked a two-year, $7.5 million contract before last season. He opted out of his player option to test free agency, drawing interest from multiple teams and exploring sign-and-trade scenarios before choosing to return. The Bucks retained his Bird rights, allowing them to exceed the cap to keep him.

The move creates a congested backcourt in Milwaukee. The Bucks already acquired Tyler Herro and Caris LeVert via trade, hold Ryan Rollins and Kevin Porter Jr. on the roster, and selected Brayden Burries with the No. 10 overall pick. Trent's role and minutes distribution become immediate questions for a team balancing veteran scoring with youth development.

This re-signing signals Milwaukee's preference for continuity and shooting over roster flexibility. Trent's floor-spacing fits alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, but the logjam at guard could force further trades or limit development opportunities for Burries and Rollins. The Bucks are betting on a known commodity rather than clearing space for the unknown.
