Suns Owner Offers $1M to Boost All-Star Contests

Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia has pledged $1 million to winners of the 2027 NBA slam dunk and 3-point contests, with an additional $1 million for charity in each event. The offer aims to attract more star players to participate when Phoenix hosts the All-Star Weekend next year.

Ishbia announced the initiative on The Pat McAfee Show, expressing his desire to revitalize the events. However, NBA league office and players' union officials have indicated the prize structure would violate existing bonus regulations. Sources say Ishbia did not consult with the league before making the offer.

The move comes as star participation in All-Star events has declined. The last current All-Star to win the dunk contest was Blake Griffin in 2011, while Damian Lillard recently secured his third 3-point contest victory in four years. Ishbia remains committed to finding ways to incentivize top players' involvement.
