Phoenix Suns and Mercury CEO Josh Bartelstein is nearing the end of contract negotiations for a new extension, according to owner Mat Ishbia. Ishbia confirmed to ESPN that the deal is being finalized, signaling a continued partnership with Bartelstein to guide the business and basketball aspects of both franchises.

Ishbia, who hired Bartelstein in 2023, praised his CEO's leadership and vision, calling him a "trusted partner" in all facets of the organization. Bartelstein, who will soon turn 37, has been instrumental in establishing the foundation for both the Suns and the Mercury since his arrival. His previous experience includes a rapid ascent within the Detroit Pistons' front office.

The extension comes as the Suns aim to build on their playoff appearance last season. Ishbia brought Bartelstein in to help reshape the organizational culture following the departure of Robert Sarver. Bartelstein's father, Mark Bartelstein, is a well-known player agent.
