Phoenix Suns Ownership Dispute Heads to Mediation

The Phoenix Suns ownership dispute between majority owner Mat Ishbia and minority investors Scott Seldin and Andy Kohlberg is moving to confidential binding mediation. A Delaware court filing shows both parties agreed to the mediation process, which could result in Ishbia buying out the minority owners' 13% stake at a price determined by a mediator.

This development follows a contentious legal battle that began in November 2025 when Seldin and Kohlberg sued Ishbia over financial records and alleged misconduct. The dispute escalated to the point where Ishbia's majority control was reportedly threatened. The minority owners previously demanded $825 million for their shares, valuing the team at approximately $6 billion - a 60% increase from Ishbia's 2023 purchase price of $4 billion.

The mediation represents a potential resolution to months of litigation, including accusations that Ishbia used the team as a "personal piggy bank" and failed to fund capital calls. If successful, the buyout would give Ishbia approximately 96% ownership of the franchise, removing the final holdovers from the Robert Sarver era.
