Rivers considers retirement for family time

Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers suggested Tuesday he might step down after this season, citing a desire to spend more time with his seven grandchildren all 8 years and under. "I have grandkids that I want to see," Rivers told reporters, dodging direct questions about his future despite having one year left on his contract.

Rivers, entering the Hall of Fame this summer and sixth on the NBA's all-time wins list, joined the Bucks midway through 2023-24. Milwaukee's season unraveled after injuries and trade speculation around star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has appeared in just 36 games this season — the fewest of his 13-year career.

The relationship between the franchise and Antetokounmpo has deteriorated, with Rivers caught in the middle. "Coaches don't decide any of this," he said, expressing frustration with answering questions about a situation he claims he has "nothing to do with." The Bucks' leadership will determine Rivers' job status within the next week.
