The Dallas Mavericks bolstered their frontcourt depth by acquiring Santi Aldama from the Memphis Grizzlies in a multi-pick trade. Memphis received guard AJ Johnson, a 2030 first-round pick (via Golden State, top-20 protected), and two second-round selections as the Grizzlies continue retooling their roster post-Ja Morant trade.

The 7-foot forward brings five seasons of experience and career-high averages of 14 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Aldama signed a two-year deal last summer with a $17 million team option for 2027-28 and had been the Grizzlies' longest-tenured player since Morant's departure. His shooting (35% from three) and versatility fit Dallas' need for frontcourt talent.

Dallas also gains draft rights to Tarik Biberovic, a 2023 second-rounder playing overseas. For the Grizzlies, the trade maximizes return on Aldama, who became expendable after trading their franchise point guard. Johnson appeared in 23 games for Dallas this season, averaging 3.9 points.
