Magic's Wagner Out Indefinitely with Ankle Injury

Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner will miss an indefinite period after tests revealed he needs additional rehabilitation for his left high ankle sprain, sources told ESPN. The 22-year-old has already missed 25 of the Magic's last 29 games since sustaining the injury against the New York Knicks on December 7. Wagner hasn't played more than two consecutive games since the original injury.

This setback compounds Orlando's injury woes, with Wagner, Paolo Banchero, and Jalen Suggs playing together in only 19 of 135 games over the past two seasons. When healthy, the trio has been electric - in 148 minutes together this season, the Magic are shooting 50.9% from the field and outscoring opponents by 40 points. Wagner is averaging 21.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in 28 appearances this season.

The timing is particularly challenging as Orlando sits at 28-25 and returns from the All-Star break Thursday night against the Kings. The Magic face a brutal stretch with games against the Phoenix Suns, LA Clippers, and Los Angeles Lakers on the road before a four-game homestand. Wagner's absence leaves a significant scoring void for a team that averages 117.2 points per game with him on the floor but drops to 112.7 without him.
