Bulls' Simons sidelined by aggravated wrist fracture

Chicago Bulls guard Anfernee Simons continues to deal with a left wrist fracture that aggravated an old injury, coach Billy Donovan confirmed before Tuesday's game against Charlotte. The 26-year-old guard, acquired in the Nikola Vucevic trade from Boston, left Saturday's loss against Detroit with what was initially termed a "sprain" before imaging revealed the fracture hadn't properly healed.

Simons originally suffered the fracture while with the Celtics during training camp, calling it "an old injury" according to Donovan. In six games with Chicago, he averaged 15.2 points and 28.4 minutes, showing promise before the setback. Donovan didn't provide an exact return timeline, noting specialists believe he can play once pain subsides, similar to his previous 7-10 day recovery period.

The Bulls entered Tuesday on a season-worst nine-game losing streak, adding injury concern to their playoff push. Simons played the first seven of his eight NBA seasons with Portland before being traded to Boston for Jrue Holiday last July. His availability could significantly impact Chicago's season as they battle for postseason positioning with a now-depleted backcourt.
