The Los Angeles Lakers have hired former Virginia coach Tony Bennett as an NBA draft adviser, bringing in the two-time national coach of the year to assist president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka. Bennett, who led Virginia to the 2019 national championship, will help refine the team's draft and scouting processes.

During his 15-year tenure at Virginia, Bennett compiled a 364-136 record and became the program's career wins leader. He guided the Cavaliers to six ACC regular-season championships and was named AP national coach of the year in 2007 and 2018. The Lakers view Bennett's expertise in developing high-character, high-skill players as a valuable asset for their front office.

Bennett's hiring comes as the Lakers look to strengthen their front office infrastructure following recent organizational changes. The 54-year-old coach played four years in the NBA, including three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, before beginning his coaching career. His addition to the Lakers' basketball operations staff represents a significant move as the team prepares for future draft decisions.
