Kevin Huerter signs 3-year deal to stay with Pistons

Sharpshooter Kevin Huerter will rejoin the Detroit Pistons on a three‑year, $27 million contract, sources told ESPN. The deal was brokered by Priority Sports’ Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman on Monday. Huerter, acquired at the previous season’s deadline, appeared in 30 games including the playoffs, averaging 8.6 points in 20.5 minutes.

Despite a dip in long‑range efficiency over the past two seasons, Huerter still provides elite spacing. His ability to knock down threes opens driving lanes for franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham and eases the load on emerging big man Jalen Duren. Detroit now faces only Duren and veteran forward Tobias Harris as remaining significant free‑agents.

The Pistons secured Huerter after he completed a four‑year, $65 million pact with Atlanta in 2021. Re‑signing the former Hawks sharpshooter adds a proven perimeter threat without sacrificing cap flexibility. With his contract settled, Detroit can focus on integrating Cunningham’s playmaking and evaluating whether Harris will stay beyond the season.

By locking Huerter in, Detroit signals a commitment to a balanced roster rather than a full rebuild. The move preserves floor spacing while the front office assesses long‑term options at forward. Huerter’s veteran presence also offers a mentorship role for the team’s younger wing players.
