The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading point guard Dennis Schroder and cash to the Charlotte Hornets for Tre Mann, sources told ESPN on Friday. This move allows Charlotte to acquire an established veteran point guard with prior connections to their front office and coaching staff. For Cleveland, the trade provides significant financial flexibility, keeping them well under the second apron and potentially enabling them to utilize the $6.1m tax midlevel exception.

The Cavaliers are reportedly in ongoing discussions with James Harden regarding a new contract. The savings from the Schroder trade could also assist Cleveland in pursuing forwards Peyton Watson and Jonathan Kuminga. Schroder, who averaged 10.8 points and 4.9 assists last season, joins his 12th NBA franchise and will aim to help the Hornets end their playoff drought, which dates back to 2016.

Mann, in turn, appeared in 53 games for the Hornets last season, contributing 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per contest.
