Jason Kidd Fired: Mavericks Coach Out After Five Seasons

Jason Kidd is out as Dallas Mavericks head coach following a mutual agreement, sources confirm. The former point guard had four years and more than $40 million remaining on his contract. New president Masai Ujiri, given full authority by governor Patrick Dumont, will lead the search for Kidd's replacement as the franchise seeks a new direction.

Kidd's tenure included a 205-205 regular season record and a 2024 NBA Finals appearance. His fate was sealed after the front office, particularly following the Luka Doncic trade to the Lakers, underwent a complete overhaul. Kidd was not considered for the president of basketball operations role and was kept in the dark during Ujiri's hiring process.

His legacy is split: a 136-87 record with Doncic on the floor versus 69-118 without him, including a 26-56 mark last season. A Hall of Fame player drafted by Dallas in 1994, Kidd leaves with a 388-395 overall coaching record, having led the team to two conference finals.

The organization now faces a pivotal rebuild around Cooper Flagg, demanding a coach who can develop young talent and restore championship contention.
