The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to send a 2026 second-round draft pick to the Miami Heat to resolve a complex dispute involving Terry Rozier and gambling allegations. The pick will be the more favorable of Golden State's or Denver's selections, marking an unusual resolution to an unprecedented situation that has kept Rozier off the court.

Rozier faces federal charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering related to alleged game manipulation in March 2023. Prosecutors claim he told an associate he would underperform, allowing gamblers to bet over $200,000 on the under of his statistics. The Heat still owe the Hornets a first-round pick in 2027 or 2028 from the original trade that brought Rozier to Miami.

The dispute centers on Rozier's $26.6 million salary consuming 17% of Miami's cap space while he remains ineligible to play. An arbitrator recently ruled in Rozier's favor regarding his salary after the NBA attempted to withhold payment following his October indictment. Commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged in December that the league would explore providing Miami some form of 'satisfactory relief' given the unusual circumstances.
