Rozier Seeks Hornet Contact Lift Amid Free Agency

Terry Rozier has asked a federal judge to modify release conditions in his gambling case, specifically requesting removal of a no-contact restriction with the Charlotte Hornets. His attorney argues this term has been used against Rozier in an arbitration dispute over his salary and threatens his ability to pursue NBA free agency beginning June 30.

Rozier faces conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering charges after his arrest in October 2025. The arbitrator ruled Rozier should receive his salary but later determined the no-contact condition constitutes a breach of contractual obligation to play, potentially eliminating any chance of being contracted by an NBA team.

Federal prosecutors agreed to remove a similar restriction on contact with the Heat but oppose removing the Hornets' restriction. Rozier, traded from Charlotte to Miami in January 2024, was waived by the Heat on April 10, leaving his basketball future uncertain as his criminal case continues.
