The New York Yankees will retire CC Sabathia's No. 52 on September 26, 2026, making him the 24th player in franchise history to receive this honor. The ceremony will take place before a game against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium, where Sabathia will also receive a plaque in Monument Park.

Sabathia, who spent nine seasons with the Yankees from 2009 to 2019, posted on social media that having his number retired is "one of the greatest honors of my life." The left-hander joins former teammates Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte with plaques in Monument Park. His career spanned 19 seasons with Cleveland, Milwaukee, and New York, where he compiled a 134-88 record and 1,700 strikeouts.

Elected to the Hall of Fame in 2025 on the first ballot, Sabathia was a six-time All-Star and 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner with Cleveland. He won a World Series title with the Yankees in 2009. His 3,093 career strikeouts rank third among left-handers behind Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton.
