The Yankees placed starting pitcher Ryan Weathers on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a left forearm flexor strain. The left-hander exited Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Toronto in the fourth inning after throwing a sweeper to Myles Straw. Manager Aaron Boone said Weathers will not throw for two to four weeks but expressed optimism about a potential return before the end of the season.

Weathers, awaiting consultation with team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad, felt discomfort during the pitch and decided to exit the game. The 26-year-old, son of former reliever David Weathers, joined the Yankees in a January trade with the Marlins. He is 5-8 with a 3.60 ERA in 25 starts this season, setting career highs with 143 strikeouts and 137⅓ innings.

Weathers missed time last season with a strained left flexor and lat. To replace him, Brendan Beck was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
